NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and Core Values

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is a professional organization that helps promote high quality learning for all young children. The Council for Professional Recognition has adapted the Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment set forth by the NAEYC.


The NAEYC holds the value of the code of ethical conducts to high standards and holds early childhood educators to specific and professional behaviors. The ideals in the code of ethics are there to help guide educators, while the principles govern the conduct of behaviors.


What are the core values?


According to the NAEYC’s official Code of Ethical Conduct and the Statement of Commitment, the
Core Values are:

  • Appreciate childhood as a unique and valuable stage of human life cycle
  • Base our work on knowledge of how children develop and learn
  • Appreciate and support the bond between the child and family
  • Recognize children are best understood and supported in the context of family, culture, community, and society
  • Respect the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of each individual
  • Respect diversity in children, family, and colleagues
  • Recognize children and adults achieve their full protentional in the context of relationships based on trust and respect
